Q: What are worm castings?
A: Worm castings, also known as vermicompost or "worm poop" are an organic fertilizer and natural pesticide that will never burn your plants. In addition to containing unusually high populations of beneficial microorganisms crucial to healthy root systems, castings also naturally aerate the soil, retain high moisture levels, and release nutrients slowly over time to meet your plants needs.
Q: What results should I expect?
A: Castings naturally and markedly improve the look and health of plants. Along with a notable increase in blooms, plants will have darker colored foliage and produce larger harvests. Studies have shown several types of pests and diseases being eliminated naturally.
Q: How many gallons will a package of Underground Magic Worm Tea make?
A: Simply speaking, each tea bag is designed to make one gallon of brew. But to stir things up a bit (pun intended), you can easily dilute the mixture.
We’ve done quite a bit of research on this topic and found that most brews don’t reference their mix ratio or “strength” so it’s very difficult to compare across brands. The USDA references brews with a ratio up to one part castings to 50 part water (1:50) and this is what we use on our garden very successfully. However, in order to ensure customer satisfaction, Underground Magic Tea Bags contain double the castings, and at one gallon produce a 1:25 ratio, which is why you can dilute the mixture. If you were to brew 2 gallons per bag, you would be back to the 1:50 ratio and still have very happy plants.
FYI, please be sure to use dechlorinated water, as the chlorine right out of your tap will kill all of those friendly little microbes.
Q: How big is each Underground Magic Tea Bag?
A: Each bag is 4x6” and contains at least 5 ounces of compost. If you brew one bag per gallon, this represents a ratio of 1 part castings to 25 parts water.
Q: What is the shelf-life of Underground Magic Tea?
A: The key to this question is the shelf-life of the tea, once brewed... The brewing process produces billions of living microbes which require oxygen to survive. So, once brewed, the tea should be used immediately and preferably within four hours. The colonies of aerobic microbes will quickly consume the oxygen in the tea brew and begin to die. As for the individual tea bags, they have an infinite shelf life.
Q: Where will you ship?
A: Due to various country's Department of Agriculture restrictions, Underground Magic currently limits shipments to the United States.
